Kristin Alexander

My passion for the arts, especially theater and writing, extend into all
aspects of my life.
As a young girl, my mother sometimes called me “Sarah.” While Mom was
undoubtedly poking fun at my dramatic flair – the nickname was a reference
to actress Sarah Bernhardt – it’s possible she also had a premonition. I
began acting shortly thereafter and love it as much as I did then.
I've performed throughout Washington on stages, in parks and even in an
Italian bistro. Favorite roles include Adriana in Shakespeare’s “Comedy of
Errors” and Poopay in Alan Ayckbourne’s silly, time-traveling thriller “Communicating Doors.”
I studied acting and journalism at Western Washington University and have
continued my theater training under the tutelage of some of Seattle’s
best-known casting directors and veteran performers.
When not in the spotlight, I frequently can be found in the audience. I’ve
worked as a theater critic, have served on the board of directors for
POSSCA (a charitable
organization that benefits artists) and – just for the fun of it – accompanied a group of high
school students to Scotland where they performed in
Edinburgh’s
International Fringe Festival. The
Oregon Shakespeare Festival
has been a favorite destination for many years.
If acting forms my heart, then ink runs through my veins. As an
award-winning journalist and public relations expert, I know the news
business from both sides.
I’ve written more than 1,000 articles for publications including the Tri-City Herald, The Olympian, the News Tribune, the Columbia Basin Herald
and The Sitting Duck. I've won a dozen awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Washington Press Association for breaking news coverage, features and theater criticism.
A career as a full-time newspaper reporter eventually led me to public
relations. I designed and facilitated media relations workshops to empower
state government employees with the skills and confidence to effectively
communicate with reporters. Hundreds of individuals representing more than
30 organizations have received my training. Other states incorporated my
curriculum into their media relations strategies.
In my free time, I enjoy travelling and – as a recently minted
Washington
Wine Ambassador – professing my appreciation for our state’s vintners and
their delectable juices. A lifelong resident of Washington, I currently live
in downtown Seattle.
